Do you have a primary care physician?  You can ask your doctor for samples or free month discount cards.  This will allow you to get prescriptions filled out for free, or you can call the manufacturer and explain what's happening.  Many times they'll help you out with free prescriptions.

 Also check your state, lots of free health care plans albeit those take time but going to a public free health clinic in your area will help you out with your prescriptions.

This is going to take some research and footwork but doable.  I suggest you start immediately.

As for the craigslist thing?  Sheesh i tried that a while ago for myself (lol), because I have so much crap filling my computer room :P  The problem with that however, is the same problem im facing now - Too much work...lol..  So instead of taking pictures and fancy description that are downloadable from any computer vendor.  I just posted the mere facts.

"computer stuff, almost new, way too much crap to take pictures of but i'm selling the whole lot.  You're welcome to come look offer me a price..." etc..etc.  something along those lines.

When I say i have a lot of computer stuff believe me I have enough.  In fact I have enough to run this Aidpage service over twice.

By now you can tell i'm geek oriented....I accumulated my stuff from former .com companies that went out of business, in hopes of starting my own business, but then i got married and it was all downhill from there :P

Now I can't say i'm poor, but i'm can't say i'm rich either.  I live paycheck to paycheck which puts me in the embarrassing place of not being able to help my friend.  However there was a huge downturn in my life and she came to my rescue so i'm doing anything and everything I can to return the help.

Anything I come across that may also help others here, i'll pass along as well.

Day 2 of how my friend is progressing through her hardship.

She's made some in roads with an appoint with welfare services.  I'm off to her house to drop off a few small bills and help her out with a metro card (New York City here ;)) so she can at least travel without getting busted for trying to hop the turnstyle in an effort to catch the subway.

I have a bunch of old computer equipment old (but in fairly new condition) that I was going to donate but that's not going to help her any.  I would try to sell them on ebay but there so much crap that it's just way to much effort, to take pictures, write description, package, ship, etc..etc..  I love my friend but damn that's just too much work :P

Maybe i'll ask her to do all that work :)

I'll keep my promise to her and keep trying to reach out to folks for a helping hand.

If anything else materializes from her trip to the Welfare office or with the insurmountable effort to get computer stuff on ebay, i'll keep everyone posted.

Excellent bit of info!!!  Any more sites like ModestNeeds?  My friends credit score not nearly good enough for help from prosper.com but ModestNeeds looks like a good fit.  Any more leads like this could be helpful.

Recently I recieved a desperate plea for help from a friend needing money for rent which is 5 months overdue.  Besides my own guilt of not being able to help, I simply don't have the $2,500 she needs.  I suggested that perhaps she ask for donations online.

I won't go into the history of how she got herself into this mess, but let's just say it was a series of circumstances and uncalculated decisions.

As it is, after looking over many of these types of sites, it appears the chances of recieving cash donations for someone that's in distress are pretty slim.  I'm guessing because of the scams, not being able to spare anything, or not interested.

Anyway asking is still a safer approach that being spammed or hit with a trojan, so that has to account for something.  With that being said, she only needs $2,500 may never pay it back, but then agains she's a better person than I, so she may make an effort.

Incidentally, i'll try to keep a daily log of her quest for help...Stay tuned.

If you willing to help or have other suggestion besides cash of what she can do in the near term that i can pass onto her then i'm all ears.  Private message me.
